HKIA was registered in Hong Kong as a Social Service Society in March 26, 1996., and was invited to join the IFIA International Federation of Inventors Associations on June 7 of the same year and became its ordinary member. Then on Nov. 9 of 1999 became IFIA's Full Member
To advocate and enourage invention, to call for social attention to valuing inventions, to protecting inventors' patent rights and to develop intelligence resources in order to promote science and technology in Hong Kong.
*To enourage our members(or non-members)to use their wisdom and creativity to invent new products catering to market needs.
*To communicate with industrial and commerical circles, and to hold seminars in order that inventions will cater to technological, trade/industrial and consumer needs.
* To co-operate and communicate with professional societies of same interest at home and abroad, and to hold discussions and exhibitions.
* To set up a library and a computer centre with regard to inventions and patents so as to help our members' research work.
*To assist our members to apply for patents and to commerciaise their patents.
* To publish books and journals on inventions and patents for purpose of introducing latest relevant information and calling for social attention to invention.
* To encourage our members to participate in international invention activities for information, publicity and co-operation.
* To submit to the government proposals of advocating invention in Hong Kong.
* To call ardent people and societies to contribute bounty and fund so as to make it possible to hold yearly invention competitions. to give awards to outstanding inventors and to aid them to participate in international invention Exhibitions.
*To organise regular social activities and recreations for our members in order to promote friendship and communication.
IV. Member's Right and Obligations
*Membership qualification
Legal Hong Kong residents of sound mentatity and good conduct, regardless of nationality, sex and age.
Type of members
1)Ordinary member --- anyone who is interested in our aims, acknowledges our regulations, and pays the membership dues.
2)Professional member --- anyone who has an university degree, or holder of local or foreign certificate of invention.
3)Permanent member --- sponsor of the Association subscriber of HK$50,000.00 in one payment; anyone who is 55 years old or above and has constant membership of ten years or longer. Permanent membership is subject to nomination and approval by the council.
4)Honorary member---subscriber of HK$100,000.00 in one payment, or anyone who has made special contribution to the Association. Honorary membership is subject to nomination and approval by the council.
