Q :
How do you feel by winning so many medals and awards for your invention ?
Jackson : I think I was being lucky for winning so many medals and awards. I didn't
expect such result happened on me.
Q :
You are being humble. I learned from other members saying that you did a lot of hard work
in presenting your invention. Can you tell us something about it ?
Jackson :
Before participating any invention exposition for invention contest, I did a lot of
paper works that consist of introduction of my invention, inventor message, pictures
of invention, awards won, testing report both in-house and recognized third party,
patent documents etc. I formed that all in a very presentable booklet.
I have in hand a physical sample that is functional for testing. As soon as the
Jury comes to my booth, I humbly present my invention to the Jury orally followed
by a functional sample for them to testing the effect. After then, I submit my nice
looking color printed booklet to the Jury for his/her reference and request them to study
the contents. I was extremely lucky that they accepted my presentable booklet and did
study it with interest as it was so orderly arranged.
Q :
You are being humble again. Having a good presentation is right.
How would they award you with a medal if your invention is not outstanding?
Have you got your invention patented ?
Jackson :
Of course! I have got my invention patented world wide in term of technology.
I do have design patents for my product in many countries and Trade Mark registered
in many countries and places including China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Doing this is a
long term investment of my plan .
Q :How do you explore the market for your invention ?
Jackson :
I have a very strategic global marketing plan for my invention. It started from
Hong Kong in the year of 2003. I launched Fridge-to-go® in one of the leading
department store on the Sept 28 2003 and then launched in the Year End
Hong Kong Manufacturing Product Exposition. I further set a Fridge-to-go show room in
Shatin in size of over 2000 square feet. This show room can be used as a multi
function room as I occasionally give lecture to the high school student in
a group of 40 to 50 persons in this room. Such lecture is designed to inspire them
for being innovative and creative in their life. Fridge-to-go® is now well known
by certain consumers. As far as International market is concerned, I have spent years
to explore such market and have just successfully broken through all the barrier
getting into the most difficult and competitive North America market. I know that
I still have to work it hard although the product will soon be launched in North America.
I have to be very thankful to the Trade Development Council.
They organized the INNOVATION & DESIGN EXPO 2005 from the
Nov 21 -23 2005 . Officials from TDC and HKSAR together with the 8 leading Journalists
from the prestigious media of 4 countries in Europe came to Fridge-to-go® show room
for a 2 and half hour interview with me. They are very impressed with my invention
and recognized my strategic global marketing plan which is very aggressive and effective.
I think that is all for the time being. Too much would cause misunderstanding that
my intention is to advertise for my invention.
Q :
Why don't you tell us some more? Based on the progress of your marketing effort,
Will your product soon be launched in the North America market smoothly?
Jackson :
I think it will be launched smoothly but it all depends of luck. We have all the
infrastructure ready, all now we need is
" Luck " and consumer satisfaction. Ok. Let us talk about something else.
I don't want to promote my product right here .
Q :
Your Fridge-to-go® invention is so successful. Have you got any other invention on
the pipe line ?
Jackson :
Of course I have! Being an invention, you can not live without any motivation.
My new invention will soon be introduced in January 2006 after the filing of patent
application. We have already got order of this invention from North America.
Further, I do have another meaningful invention that has the real market value on the
pipe line.
Q : There are many inventors in Hong Kong and they may not have the similar grounding like you. What is the difference between you and those inventors?
Q : What does " 5 " to " 10 " representing ?
Jackson :
" 5 " to " 10 " represents Prototype correction and enhancement, financial arrangement,
patent protection, packaging design, production planning, market researching, price positioning,
finding strategic business partners, promotion and delivery. You need to spend a lot of time
and effort to focus on every segment above before you get there.
It is not just as easy as verbal discussion. You may have to spent more time and effort than
inventing .
Q :
Based on your experience in invention and market development, what have you got to say to
the other inventors in Hong Kong ?
Jackson :
Inventors should be responsible and contributable. Do not just go for invention of
anything because you like invention. It is only a waste of time.
Inventors should put more time to understand the market before they decide to come out
with an idea for invention. The invention should also help to solve people's
every day problem. The invention should have the market value and future potential.
90% of the inventions in the world went into the museum as it has no market value
for whatever reasons. If one has got a good invention and they don't have the finance
to support its further development, they should look for investors.
When they have found an investor, they should not set their terms to high and they
build up trust with the investors. Many of the deals failed for a reason of lacking
trust and setting terms too high. Inventors should understand the success of their
invention is to get the invention developed and then put it into the market place.
If they have got their invention developed, in most cases in only position their
invention in a status of " 4 " and they need more money and effort to help them
finishing the journey of " 5 " to " 10 " . The investors that help you to finish
the journey have to risk putting their money and effort to help achieve the goal.
Therefore, inventors should be more considerable of the other parties.
They should always bear in mind with a WIN-WIN- WIN philosophy .
Q : Do you recognize that invention should be focus on solving people's every problem ?
Jackson :
Of course indeed! You see all the items sitting on shelf in the shops. They are mostly
user friendly and useful in your life .
Q :
It is very late now. It is really time consuming for this personal interview since 10am
and
it is late afternoon now. Thank you for coming here and spending so much time for us.
Jackson :
Not at all. It is my great pleasure to share my experience with
you all and I appreciate for giving me the opportunity .
